Safety at sea is everyone's responsibility. Here are some important rules for safe travel in and around Kvalvåg.

Be prepared

Check weather forecasts and tides before heading out. Ensure the boat is in good condition and has enough fuel.

Wear a life jacket

Flotation equipment is mandatory for everyone on board boats under 8 meters while underway.

Be considerate

Slow down near land, beaches, and other boats. Respect speed limits and protected areas.

Be sober

The blood alcohol limit at sea is 0.8 for operators of recreational boats under 15 meters.

The Sea Sense Rules

  1. Think safety. Knowledge and planning reduce risk and increase enjoyment.
  2. Bring necessary equipment. Equipment must be kept in order and easily accessible.
  3. Respect weather and waters. The boat should only be used in conditions it is designed for.
  4. Follow the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea. Provisions on right of way, speed, and navigation lights must be observed.
  5. Wear a life jacket or flotation device. Flotation equipment is mandatory for everyone on board small boats.
  6. Be rested and sober. The blood alcohol limit is 0.8 when operating a boat.
  7. Be considerate. Safety, environment, and well-being are a shared responsibility.
